passion for canadian fashion

this week i had the opportunity to volunteer at toronto fashion week. i was stationed in the runway room and had one of the most inspiring and exhilarating experiences just being able to help out and witness the creativity and effort that goes into making the event possible.

i was aware of a few canadian designers but being new to the fashion scene i wasnt completely in the know. let me tell you, canada has got some serious talent. the first show i saw was holt renfrew which was a cute conglomeration of all the canadian lines they carry such as greta constantine, todd lynn and even canada goose. next was izma, show casing the most fantastic of furs. a few thousand pelts were used in that show.

korhani, originally a rug company, showed an out of this world line. it was like a take back to some 70's acid trip, falling down the rabbit hole in alice in wonderland. the shan show just made me want to tan and not want to eat. i also was able to witness the denis gagnon runway collection which was just out of this world wild. fuschia knit fur sweaters and brilliant turquoise maxi skirts. creative genius but i dont think we will be seeing it hit the streets of toronto this fall.

the youngsters in the group were the ladies of chloƩ comme parris. they put on a great show and seriously how much do you need to accomplish before you are even 25. seriously, these sisters are making the rest of us look bad. i left the exhibition feeling revitalized and inspired all over again. i also have been on the stability ball and hitting the gym almost everyday since. so as fashion week comes to an end i remain content with my choice to become involved in this invigorating industry!
